What Is ThermiVa Vaginal Rejuvenation?
ThermiVa is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that aims to improve the appearance of the vagina and resolve certain issues like urinary incontinence and sexual function in women. It is mainly intended for women who have noticed age-related changes in their vaginal tissue or women who have had natural childbirth resulting in vaginal changes, but many young women also benefit from ThermiVa treatments. Thermi devices like ThermiVa use radiofrequency laser energy to build collagen and improve elasticity in the internal and external vaginal tissues. Increased collagen in the tissue of the labia minora and labia majora.
As a method of Vaginal Rejuvenation, ThermiVa is an outpatient procedure that involves no pain or downtime. Patients can receive ThermiVa treatments and return to normal activity immediately after their sessions. Since no anesthetics are involved, you can even drive yourself to and from the treatment. This makes ThermiVa one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for improving the appearance of the vagina.
The Benefits of ThermiVA
Patients seek ThermiVa treatment because it is a simple procedure that comes with a wide variety of benefits.
Childbearing, hormone changes, and aging can result in changes in the labia and vaginal tissues. These include vaginal laxity, stress urinary incontinence, loss of vaginal lubrication, a decrease in erotic sensation and loss of tone of the labia majora, as well as external skin changes resulting in baggy or crepey skin. As a woman in my 40’s and a mom, I understand firsthand these changes. I personally use Vaginal Rejuvenation every 4-6 months to maintain tone and aesthetics in my vaginal area. I also have some post-pregnancy stress urinary incontinence which I notice the most when jumping on the trampoline in my backyard with my daughter. This incontinence is completely resolved after treatment with vaginal rejuvenation.
ThermiVa treatment can make remarkable changes to the vaginal tissue, resulting in several benefits for mothers, older women, or those struggling with certain medical issues or consequences of vaginal laxity. The benefits of ThermiVa include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Tightening loose vaginal skin
- Improving the appearance of the vagina
- Minimizing sagging labia minora and labia majora tissue
- Relieving symptoms of urinary incontinence
- Improving sexual sensation by increasing blood flow
- Creating a more youthful appearance to the anatomy
- Promotes collagen production of the treated areas
One of the biggest benefits of ThermiVa is that it is a straightforward procedure with no pain or recovery time for the patient. You can walk in and out of your ThermiVa session on the same day with no anesthetics and no downtime.
Before ThermiVa Procedure
ThermiVa is an outpatient cosmetic procedure that is fast and simple for the patient. Everything from the treatment to recovery should be a smooth process when you seek this cosmetic procedure. Find out everything ThermiVa involves before, during, and after right here.
Your ThermiVa Screening
Before scheduling ThermiVa treatment, you will need to be asked a series of screening questions to make sure you are a good candidate for ThermiVa and that it is safe for you to get the treatment done. Since this treatment does not require a consultation, the screening questions are important because ThermiVa is not the best cosmetic option for everyone and some patients may need to wait until health issues are resolved to have the treatment. For example, women who are or could be pregnant, or women who are breastfeeding should wait to have any ThermiVa treatments done until they have given birth and or have finished breastfeeding. Patients with health issues such as history of cancer in the area or current STD’s or STI’s should wait until their health issues have resolved before having ThermiVa treatments.
You will be required to sign various forms, including consent forms, before your first session. You will also receive a list of pre and post-treatment instructions so you are prepared and informed on the treatment.
Preparing for ThermiVa Treatment
Preparing for ThermiVa treatment requires very little of the patient. With that being said, in order to ensure that you are in the optimal position to achieve the best results from your procedure. Take the following into consideration:
Abnormal Pap Smears
Before receiving ThermiVa treatments, you must have had a normal pap smear in the last two years. If you have had a recent pap smear with abnormal results, please let me or my staff know. Abnormal pap smears can indicate certain conditions that could be aggravated with the use of radiofrequency energy.
Vaginal Surgery or Vaginal Prolapse
If you have had recent vaginal surgery or have any degree of vaginal prolapse, you may not be a good candidate for ThermiVa treatment. The laser heat used during these sessions could irritate those with recent surgery or prolapse.
Hydration
For optimal results, it is important to be well-hydrated before your ThermiVa session. I recommends drinking an extra four to six glasses the day before treatment. This will help enhance the effects that radiofrequency energy has on the cells in your vaginal tissue. Immediately before your session, you should empty your bladder to ensure you will be comfortable during the procedure.
Hair Removal
For optimal results, the treatment area should be free of hair. You can achieve this by shaving the area completely the day before treatment. Some patients prefer waxing or laser hair removal. These methods are fine but should be performed five to seven days before treatment to avoid potential irritation.
Menstruation
You can receive ThermiVa treatments if you are menstruating, but if you have a moderate to heavy flow, you should reschedule your session for when your period has ended.
What Happens During a ThermiVa Session?
ThermiVa treatments are fast, simple, and effective. There is no need for anesthesia of any kind, and patients walk right out of the office feeling great after their session. Many patients report that ThermiVa treatment feels like a hot stone massage! Here’s everything you can expect when you have a ThermiVa treatment performed by me:
You’ll lie back comfortably in a similar position to that of a gynecological exam. I will then use a wand device that transmits radiofrequency energy to massage the vaginal tissue gently. You will feel slight warmth and gentle pressure (similar to a hot stone massage) but no pain or discomfort. Some patients are so relaxed that they bring a book to read or music to listen to during their session.
Your ThermiVa session will last approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Once complete, you’ll be able to leave immediately and resume regular activity the same day. Your skin may be slightly pink and feel warm to the touch for several hours after treatment, but there should be no discomfort.
ThermiVa Results and Recovery
There is no recovery process after ThermiVa treatment. Patients can return to normal activity immediately after leaving their session, including work, exercise, and sexual activity.
Of course, results vary from patient to patient. Most people notice results after their first session, but it often takes two to three sessions to see complete results. I recommend having your three initial ThermiVa sessions spaced several weeks apart. This gives adequate time for collagen production to increase and skin to begin to tighten. After you reach optimal results, I recommend returning for a few sessions a year to maintain your outcome. Am I a Good Candidate For ThermiVa Treatment?
For women who have given birth, pregnancy and labor may have caused changes in their vaginal tissue, leaving it loosened. These changes to the vaginal tissue can result in an undesirable appearance and other issues like urinary incontinence or decreased sexual sensation. ThermiVa can improve the vaginal appearance, relieve urinary incontinence, and restore sexual sensation by tightening the tissue of the labia minora and vaginal walls.
ThermiVa is not for women who have certain gynecological conditions, as indicated by an abnormal pap smear. If you have recently had vaginal surgery or have vaginal prolapse, you may not be a good candidate for ThermiVa treatment, as this can irritate the anatomy in that area.
