Can I have a BBL and tummy tuck at the same time?

No. Dr. Cat never performs a Brazilian butt lift on the same day as a tummy tuck, because the two recoveries contradict each other: after a BBL you cannot put pressure on the buttocks, and after a tummy tuck you cannot put pressure on the abdomen. She stages them on separate days and sets the order at the consultation.

Can a tummy tuck and breast augmentation be done on the same day?

No. Dr. Cat does not perform a tummy tuck on the same day as a breast augmentation with implants, and a breast lift with a tummy tuck is staged too. After a tummy tuck you rely on your arms to get out of bed, and after breast surgery you rely on your core; combining them extends the anesthesia and makes recovery extremely difficult.

I am pregnant. How soon after I deliver can I have surgery?

Plan a tummy tuck at least four to six months after delivery, at least three months after you finish breastfeeding, and once your weight is stable and within about 10 pounds of your goal. Dr. Cat books surgery about six to nine months ahead, so the consultation can happen a few months after you deliver.

How long is the recovery after a mommy makeover?

Each surgery recovers on its own terms because Dr. Cat stages them. After the tummy tuck day you walk the first night, return to a desk at about two weeks and to full exercise at six weeks; after breast augmentation, desk work at one week and everything at six weeks; after a labiaplasty, a desk within a few days to a week and intercourse after six weeks.

Are the results of a mommy makeover permanent?

The results last as long as your weight stays stable and you do not have another pregnancy. Fat cells removed by liposuction do not come back, a muscle repair holds unless a pregnancy stretches it, and implants are exchanged on a schedule of about every 8 to 10 years for silicone. In Dr. Cat's experience more than 80 to 90 percent of transferred fat survives, which is why her patients rarely need a second round.

Will my mommy makeover results change if I get pregnant again?

Yes, a later pregnancy can stretch the muscle repair and the tightened skin and change the breasts again, which is why Dr. Cat recommends waiting until you are done having children. Patients who do become pregnant afterwards sometimes choose a revision to restore the result.

What is a mommy makeover?

"Mommy makeover" is the name for combining the surgeries that restore a body after pregnancy and childbirth: loose skin and separated muscles of the abdomen, deflated or drooping breasts, stubborn fat that diet and exercise no longer move, and changes to the labia. There is no single mommy makeover operation. Dr. Cat builds the plan around your anatomy and your goals, and the tummy tuck is almost always its anchor. What a mommy makeover can include

Tummy tuck. A full tummy tuck with muscle repair removes the excess skin from hip to hip, repairs the separated muscles (diastasis recti) and creates a natural belly button. It is the operation most patients who ask about a mini actually need; a mini suits laxity below the navel only.
Breast augmentation, breast lift, or both. Lost volume with the nipple still above the breast fold calls for breast augmentation with implants; a nipple that has dropped below the fold calls for a breast lift; deflation and drooping together call for a lift with implants. Liposuction. Usually conservative shaping of the flanks or the mons pubis in the same surgery as the tummy tuck. Lipo 360 is its own surgery, never on the same day as a tummy tuck.
Labiaplasty. For many of Dr. Cat's patients a mommy makeover means a tummy tuck and a labiaplasty, never on the tummy tuck day: it can be combined with a breast augmentation, or done as a short outpatient procedure on its own day.
Brazilian butt lift. A BBL moves fat from the abdomen, flanks and back to the buttocks and hips. It is never performed on the same day as a tummy tuck or a breast augmentation and is staged in the order Dr. Cat sets.

How Dr. Cat does it: one surgery per day, staged

Many practices sell the mommy makeover as one long operation. Dr. Cat does not, for reasons that come from how the body heals and how her patients recover.

Anesthesia time. A tummy tuck alone takes about five and a half to seven hours. Adding breast surgery or a BBL on the same day extends the time under general anesthesia, and with it the risk.
Recovery. After a tummy tuck you cannot use your abdominal muscles and rely on your arms to get out of bed; after breast surgery you cannot use your arms and rely on your core. Combining the two makes recovery extremely difficult, and it makes the walking every other hour that prevents blood clots hard to do.
Opposite positions. After a BBL you cannot sit or put pressure on the buttocks; after a tummy tuck, pressure cannot be placed on the abdomen. The two recoveries contradict each other.
The labia. A labiaplasty is never done on the same day as a tummy tuck: the tummy tuck garment chafes the healing labia and the swelling compounds.

So the rules are simple. A tummy tuck is never done on the same day as a breast augmentation with implants, a BBL or a labiaplasty, and a breast lift with a tummy tuck is staged. What a typical plan looks like

The most common first day is a full tummy tuck with muscle repair, a $40,500 to $60,500 surgeon's fee depending on complexity and patient anatomy. Breast surgery is scheduled on its own day at least three months after you have finished breastfeeding, once there is no nipple discharge and the shape of the breasts has settled; this can be a breast augmentation, a breast lift, or a combination of both. Liposuction 360, with or without a BBL, gets its own day when it is part of the plan. A labiaplasty can be combined with a breast augmentation; otherwise it is a short outpatient procedure on its own day. Every part of the plan is quoted together, in writing, at the consultation.
