Melissa L.

Location: Southern California

Procedure: Labiaplasty

Q: Tell us a little about yourself and what made you decide to get Plastic Surgery?

ML: The decision was something that I have thought about for years, maybe over a decade once I learned that Labiaplasty surgery was a real thing. For me, it was something that I needed to do to help me feel more comfortable in my own skin.

Q: Now that you’ve gone through this journey, what’s your life like? Any plans or new outlook for the future?

ML: No specific plans, but I have seen a growth in myself and my confidence, which is priceless.

Q: Tell us about your emotions and how you felt throughout your journey:

ML: What emotions didn’t I have? I was nervous excited – like I am sure everyone is when they experience a big event in their life (first kiss, first love, etc.). You question yourself, and your decision – or at least I did but I think that is also just part of the process. I am a very SELFLESS person, and this was really one of the first things I did SOLELY for me, and only me. It was hard for me to be okay with that –

Q: How did it feel when you and Dr. Cat met and decided that your procedure was the right for you?

ML: Choosing Dr. Cat was without a doubt, one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. She has a calming presence and makes you feel so comfortable, and beautiful. She explains EVERYTHING with so much detail and answered all my questions (and it was a laundry list for sure).

Q: How did it feel when your new look was revealed to you?

ML: I didn’t look at all when I got back to my hotel room after my surgery. I wanted to wait so the morning after my surgery, when I saw Dr. Cat and my cookie was revealed to me, I could not believe my eyes. I was in total shock. I was beyond happy with the results (swollen and everything).

Q: What do you think other people should know before undergoing Labiaplasty Surgery?

ML: Trust the process and listen to the doctor and the “rules”. I was scared, as I mentioned earlier. Had a full range of emotions but I trusted the process. I trusted my doctor and asked all the questions that I had in order to ensure that I was doing everything that I could (within my power) to ensure that I healed correctly and didn’t have any bumps in the road along the way.

Q: With so many other doctors, why did you and why should others choose Dr. Cat?

ML: I had previously seen another doctor (who shall remain nameless) and although he was nice and qualified – I felt that he was more for “show”. He didn’t listen to me, speak to me. The consult was maybe 15 minutes, and the one with Dr. Cat was easily an hour. Dr. Cat always takes the time her patient needs to ensure that they understand and the reasoning to why so that we (her patients) understand.

Q: Is there a particular moment or memory that stands out for you?

ML: Surgery day – I don’t really know how I didn’t have a total breakdown prior based on all my emotions but once I was in the operating room, Dr. Cat was right by my side (while they were hooking me up and getting my IV ready). I had never been put under prior to that day and was scared. I spoke with her and the anesthesiologist prior and addressed my fears and knowing that she made sure to be there – talking me thru everything. She held my hand – and her touch was the calming presence that I needed in that moment.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

ML: Don’t be afraid of the journey – I can promise you it will be the best decision you have ever made. We all deserve to put ourselves first, and you can’t put a price on that.

Q: Favorite Plastic Surgery Memory?

ML: I have two – the initial reveal and then also my 3-month post op check (reveal). And my nap when I was in surgery – it was truly the best sleep I have gotten in years.

Q: How was the pre-surgery process? The clearance and testing?

ML: I had no problems getting into my doctor, I got the list of testing and what is needed after I booked the surgery appointment and I called to ensure that I got into the doctor within that month time frame for the surgery. It was honestly the easiest process of the entire journey. It takes a bit longer to get the results since I also had to get a COVID test (and I did not pay for the rapid results), but all together the easiest part.
