Labiaplasty and ThermiVA: Two Procedures that Will Give You A Designer Vagina

Are you satisfied with the appearance of your most intimate areas? Some women desire a more aesthetically-pleasing vagina and seek vaginal rejuvenation procedures to create the “designer vagina” they’ve always wanted.

As it turns out, there are two cosmetic procedures that aim to improve the appearance of the labia minora and labia majora. While these two procedures are very different, they can both help you achieve a more beautiful vagina. Learn more about labiaplasty and ThermiVA here.

What Is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that aims to improve the appearance of the vagina by altering the labia minora and labia majora.

The labia minora refers to the inner folds of tissue that immediately surround the vaginal opening. Many women are unhappy with the length of their labia minora, with tissue that extends too far down or appears to be asymmetrical. The tissue can also cause patients discomfort when wearing certain clothing, and performing certain activities. In severe cases, irritation or friction can cause the labia minora to bleed or tear.

Renowned Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Cat Begovic, explains the benefits of her specialized labiaplasty procedure here:

“Labiaplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that removes excess labia minora and reshapes it. I’m proud to say that I’m one of the pioneers in the field of labiaplasty and that I’ve developed my very own special surgical technique that creates a natural-looking, symmetric, and tucked-in shape.”

“Through the advocacy, I have done to normalize discussions about labiaplasty and have women feel more comfortable to seek solutions for themselves, it is becoming more popular. It is one of the most common surgeries I perform. In most cases, the procedure is more than cosmetic; it truly improves a woman’s quality of life.”

How Is Labiaplasty Performed?

For a labiaplasty, a patient is put under general anesthesia in a cosmetic surgery facility while their procedure is performed.

During the surgery, the labia minora may be resected to shorten the length until it is more visually-pleasing and symmetrical. Depending on the extent of work needed, the procedure can take anywhere between 2.5 to 4 hours to complete.

What Is Labiaplasty Recovery Like?

Labiaplasty is typically an outpatient procedure, which means that the patient is able to return home the same day. Many patients are able to return to work within a few days after their procedure.

Strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and sexual activity should be avoided for four to six weeks so that the surgical site has time to heal properly.

Dr. Cat has developed a special technique that has little to no pain after surgery. Swelling typically subsides fully within four weeks. Patients should refrain from wearing tight clothing or activities that rub the vaginal area for 4 weeks after surgery.

How Much Does a Labiaplasty Procedure Cost?

The average cost of a labiaplasty procedure is anywhere between $5,000 and $15,000. In high-demand areas like Los Angeles, labiaplasties run on the higher end, around $25,000.

Are There Any Risks with Labiaplasty?

Aside from the risks associated with general anesthesia, there are very few risks with labiaplasty procedures.

Ideal Candidates for Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a great option for women aged 20 to 60 who wish to improve the appearance of their vaginas or women who have excess labia minora tissue that causes discomfort. This includes women who have given birth and notice that childbirth has changed the appearance of their anatomy.

Ideal candidates should be in good general health, as the procedure requires general anesthesia.

What is ThermiVA or Vaginal Rejuvenation?

ThermiVA is a non-surgical, non-invasive cosmetic treatment that can improve the appearance of your vagina and increase tightness around the vaginal opening.

ThermiVA uses radiofrequency energy to gently heat vaginal tissue, tightening it and improving muscle tone.

Vaginal tissue and muscle can stretch and loosen over time, especially after childbirth. ThermiVA treatments use radiofrequency to improve this muscle tone and restore it to what it was in a woman’s younger years.

ThermiVA can also serve as a treatment for urinary incontinence and certain sexual dysfunction issues. ThermiVA enhances sexual pleasure by increasing blood flow to the G-spot and clitoris.

Dr. Cat Begovic explains how she uses ThermiVA treatments herself to resolve a number of her own vaginal issues:

Childbearing, hormone changes, and aging can result in changes in the labia and vaginal tissues. These include vaginal laxity, stress urinary incontinence, loss of vaginal lubrication, and a decrease in erotic sensation and loss of tone of the labia majora, as well as external skin changes resulting in baggy or crepey skin.”

As a woman in my 40s and a mom, I understand firsthand these changes. I personally use Vaginal Rejuvenation every four to six months to maintain tone and aesthetics in my vaginal area.”

I also have some post-pregnancy stress urinary incontinence, which I notice the most when jumping on the trampoline in my backyard with my daughter. This incontinence is completely resolved after treatment with vaginal rejuvenation.”

How is ThermiVA Performed?

ThermiVA is performed in a cosmetic surgery clinic by a physician’s assistant or doctor using a device that transmits radiofrequency energy into tissues like skin and muscle.

During ThermiVA treatments, this device transmits energy into the tissue of the vaginal canal and labia minora, heating the cells and tightening the tissue. The procedure takes about 30 to 40 minutes.

Most patients do not see significant results after one ThermiVA treatment. Two or three treatments are recommended to see optimal results. After this initial set of treatments, it is recommended that patients receive additional ThermiVA treatments one to two times a year to maintain their results.

What is ThermiVA Recovery Like?

Vaginal Rejuvenation or ThermiVA treatments are outpatient procedures, allowing the patient to return home immediately afterward. Most patients report no pain or discomfort after their procedure. The area may be a little pink immediately afterward, which often fades quickly.

There is no swelling or scarring. Patients are able to return to work and other normal activities on the same day as their procedure.

How Much Do ThermiVA Treatments Cost?

Each ThermiVA treatment can cost between $750 and $3,500, depending on the location. For three initial treatments, the cost could be as high as $8,000.

To maintain the results, the patient would then be paying another $750 to $3,000 a year, depending on how often they have additional maintenance treatments.

Are There Any Risks with ThermiVA?

Since ThermiVA does not involve anesthesia, there are few to no risks associated with the procedure. Most patients feel completely fine afterward.

Ideal Candidates for ThermiVA Treatments

Ideal candidates for ThermiVA are women between the ages of 20 and 60 who are looking to improve loose or stretched vaginal tissue and muscle. This includes women who have already had a labiaplasty procedure completed.

Can Both Labiaplasty and ThermiVA Be Used in Conjunction?

For many women, labiaplasty and ThermiVA can actually be used in conjunction to achieve optimal results.

One month after receiving a labiaplasty and healing completely, women can seek ThermiVA treatment to tighten and tone any remaining looseness in their vaginal tissue.

While labiaplasty removes tissues and reshapes the labia minora, ThermiVA treatment will improve the remaining tissue and tighten the tisues that have stretched over time. ThermiVA builds collagen and promotes collagen production, so the tightening effect can be felt for up to a month or two after the treatment.
