Breast Augmentation with Implants is a very commonly performed cosmetic surgery using breast implants to modify the size, shape, fullness, and overall look of the breasts. The thing that most women wonder when it comes to breast augmentation is about what size they should pick. First of all, I tell everyone that everybody is different, so if your friend or someone you saw on the internet got one size, it may or may not look good on you. I personally do AT LEAST 2 sizing exercises with my patients where they try the ACTUAL implant in a non-padded bra under their clothing. If needed I tell my patients they can come in to do that as many times as they need until they feel comfortable before choosing the size. There are always limitations with each person’s anatomy as to what range will fit properly on their body and also considerations based on what type of look they are trying to achieve and that is what I discuss and help my patients with.
During your consultation, we will discuss implant type (silicone vs saline), implant placement (over or under the muscle), incision placement (in the crease or around the areola), and also sizing. In my office, we have a wide range of sizes that you can put in your bra to see how they look on your frame (the best way to pick your new size). I’ll have you feel the difference between saline and silicone breast implants and we will talk about the differences. I will also perform detailed measurements and discuss the differences in the types of implant shapes.
Every woman is different when it comes to her desired goals: some women want natural-looking breast augmentation with implant results and some women want more of a dramatic look. Therefore, I encourage you to bring photos of different breast examples to your consultation so we can discuss your aesthetic preferences in detail and I can have a better understanding of what you hope to achieve. We will also discuss your lifestyle, hobbies, and other activities that are important to you because multiple aspects of your life will affect implant choice. I always encourage my patients to reflect on the long-term aspects of breast implants.

It is important to me that your consultation is a relaxed, fun experience. I always think back to when I went in for my breast augmentation consultation over 20 years ago. I remember feeling confused and overwhelmed, rushed, and had trouble picking a size. In my office, there is no rush; I will explain to you in a clear way what your surgical procedure will entail, and answer any of your questions or concerns.
For your comfort and safety, breast augmentation with implants will be performed under general anesthesia. I will also place a numbing solution in your breasts so you will not feel pain even though you are under anesthesia.
The surgery may take 3 to 4 hours depending on complexity, anatomy, and incision. I will make an incision either in the breast crease or around the areola and then create a precise pocket for the implant. I take extreme care to be very gentle and to keep the pocket clean with little to no bleeding. I create and test the pocket using a temporary sizer which is a replica of the implant used for adjustments, and then when both pockets are symmetric and perfect, the entire field will be re-prepped for final implant placement. The implants will be placed using a no-touch technique to minimize any contamination to the implants. The final incision closure is done precisely and meticulously to create the best possible scar. As a woman who had a less than ideal first implant surgery and then struggled with complications after my revision – I understand firsthand how important this surgery is. I take extreme pride in my attention to detail with every single step of this surgery
I have developed a special breast augmentation with implants technique that has minimal pain and a quick recovery. You will feel tightness and some soreness in the breast area, but if you have discomfort, Tylenol is typically all that is needed. There will be swelling, but this will resolve about a month after surgery depending on the size of the implants. It takes a full 4-6 months for the tissues to stretch and the implants to “drop” info their final shape or position.
You will need to minimize arm movement for about 2 weeks and you will wear a supportive bra for 2 months after surgery. This is something we will measure and provide for you. Most of my patients feel almost back to normal at around 1 week after their breast augmentation surgery. Moderate exercise such as walking or stationary biking is allowed after two week. Vigorous exercise such as jogging or aerobics may be resumed in 4 weeks. You will most likely be able to return to work within a few days, but you will need to avoid any strenuous
activity for at least a couple of weeks.
Breast Augmentation scars take about 12 months to fade. You will start scar treatments at around 2 weeks after surgery. I will discuss scar care in detail with you and also provide you with scar medications and products. My patients who have gotten breast augmentation tell me how they are able to wear clothes they like, no longer need to wear a padded pushup bra, and
overall are very happy with their results.
